Jalen Smereck is an American professional ice hockey defenseman known for his offensive prowess and powerplay expertise. Born on January 15, 1997, in Detroit, Michigan, Smereck stands 6 feet tall, weighs 190 pounds, and shoots left-handed. Despite going undrafted, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Arizona Coyotes in 2016 .
Internationally, he played for Bietigheim Steelers in Germany’s DEL and briefly for Donbass Donetsk in Ukraine .
In the 2023–24 ECHL season, Smereck had a standout performance with the Cincinnati Cyclones, recording 14 goals and 57 assists over 70 games, earning him a spot on the ECHL First All-Star Team . As of the 2024–25 season, he plays for the Toledo Walleye, continuing to be a key contributor on both ends of the ice .
Beyond his on-ice achievements, Smereck is recognized for his advocacy against racism in hockey, using his platform to promote inclusivity and social justice within the sport .
